about Kingswood short mat bowls
In 1995 a group of people enrolled in an Evening Institutes Class of Learn Short Mat Bowls at The Soundwell College. At the end of the course the group wanted to continue their friendship along with their new found bowling skills. At that time there wasn't a club in the area, so to remain together they helped finance and establish Kingswood Short Mat Bowls Club and met once a week in the Kingswood Leisure Centre. After a short time, the club moved to the Kingswood Community Association, as we know it today, where some of those original members still form members of the club.
The members wanted it firstly to be a social club and we have adhered to that tradition with the competitive aspects of friendly matches and every year we have entered teams in various tournaments in Bristol and Gloucestershire counties.
We have maintained and continued to provide individual tuition for many beginners and for those whose health or disabilities have been restrictive, to re-establish and continue the opportunity in the bowling and social programme.
The club annually has a week away at venues such as Bells in the Forest of Dean and the Torquay Arena. We also enjoy social events together throughout the year for family and friends.
At our club, we pride ourselves in being friendly, providing our members with both the opportunity to meet people socially and most importantly to relax and enjoy the great sport of short mat bowls.
